From Blubrry / PowerPress

Switch to zPod

Self-hosted PowerPress: Import and verify, then WordPress Redirection 301 from the old feed path (typically /feed/podcast/) to your zPod RSS URL. Blubrry.com-hosted feeds: email support@blubrry.com.

Open the Studio Universal Checklist

Your zPod RSS URL

In checklists, paste your zPod RSS URL. That looks like https://rss.podfora.com/{slug}-{feedId}.

Copy your zPod RSS URL. That looks like https://rss.podfora.com/{slug}-{feedId}. rss.zpod.cc is a backup host and 301s to the matching rss.podfora.com URL. Prefer rss.podfora.com for directory submissions and new integrations.

Leave Blubrry / PowerPress

Import on zPod first, then redirect. These are leave-host steps. Directory portal work lives on Directory Updates.

  1. 1. Self-hosted PowerPress: follow WordPress Redirection (301) below. Source is the path only. Target is the full zPod RSS URL. Status is 301.
  2. 2. itunes:new-feed-url in PowerPress is Apple-centric only. It does not replace the 301 and does not update non-Apple apps.
  3. 3. Put the 301 on the old address, not the new one.
  4. 4. Maintain the redirect at least one month (Blubrry). Apple says four weeks minimum. Keep Redirection through soak. Deactivate PowerPress only after soak.
  5. 5. Blubrry.com-hosted feed (not self-hosted WordPress): contact support@blubrry.com for a manual 301 to your zPod RSS URL.

WordPress Redirection (301)

If the old feed is on WordPress (PowerPress or another podcast plugin), use the Redirection plugin for an HTTP 301. Typical source path is /feed/podcast/. Target is your zPod RSS URL.

  1. 1. Import to zPod and verify GUIDs and media before you change WordPress.
  2. 2. Install and configure the WordPress Redirection plugin. Source is the path only (typically /feed/podcast/). Target is the full zPod RSS URL. Status is 301.
  3. 3. Clear caches. Run curl -I on the old feed URL and confirm 301 with Location equal to your zPod RSS URL.
  4. 4. Do not rely on PowerPress PodcastMirror or another plugin-only feed mirror. Those die when the podcast plugin is deactivated. Redirection or a server-level 301 survives.
  5. 5. Each extra feed or vanity path needs its own Redirection rule.
  6. 6. Keep Redirection through the soak. Deactivate PowerPress or the old podcast plugin only after soak.

zPod does not ship a WordPress plugin. Do not install or wait for a custom zPod or PowerPress plugin. Use Redirection, or a server-level 301 (.htaccess or host panel).

Redirection on WordPress.org

Pitfalls

  • Wrong Source URL in Redirection: use the path only (for example /feed/podcast/), not the full old URL, when the plugin requires it.
  • PodcastMirror alone dies when PowerPress is deactivated. Redirection or a server-level 301 survives.
  • Cache plugins can hide a working redirect. Clear caches, then curl -I and test in a private window.
  • zPod does not ship a WordPress plugin. Do not wait for a custom zPod or PowerPress plugin.
